Redirects

Product: WPMazic SEO Pro

The Redirects module in WPMazic SEO is the central redirect operations screen used to manage URL redirections across your website. It helps you handle URL changes, fix broken paths, and maintain SEO value when pages are moved, updated, or removed.

What it is

Redirects is a dedicated workspace for creating, managing, and cleaning up redirects. It allows you to map old URLs to new destinations, ensuring users and search engines are guided correctly when content changes occur.

What it is used for

  • Create manual redirects for changed or removed URLs
  • Recover SEO value after slug or permalink changes
  • Fix broken links and outdated paths
  • Clean up unnecessary or outdated redirects
  • Manage redirect rules at scale
  • Work with 404 Monitor and automated redirect suggestions

Key Features

  • Manual Redirect Creation: Easily create redirects from old URLs to new ones
  • Redirect Types: Support for 301 (permanent), 302 (temporary), and other status codes
  • Slug Change Detection: Automatically suggest redirects when URLs change
  • 404 Integration: Works with 404 Monitor to capture broken URLs

Understanding the system

Redirect Types

  • 301 (Permanent): Transfers SEO value to the new URL
  • 302 (Temporary): Used for short-term redirects
  • 307/308: Advanced redirect types for specific use cases

Source & Destination

The Source URL is the old or broken path, and the Destination URL is where users and search engines are redirected.

404 Monitor Integration

The Redirects module works closely with the 404 Monitor. When broken URLs are detected, you can quickly create redirects directly from the logged errors.

Redirect Suggestions

When a page slug changes or content is removed, WPMazic SEO may suggest redirects automatically to prevent traffic loss.

Best Practices

  • Use 301 redirects for permanent changes
  • Avoid redirect chains (multiple redirects in sequence)
  • Fix 404 errors quickly to improve user experience
  • Review redirects regularly and remove outdated ones
  • Keep URLs clean and consistent

Troubleshooting

Redirect not working

  • Check if the source URL is correct
  • Ensure there are no conflicting rules
  • Clear cache and test again

Redirect loop detected

  • Check for circular redirects
  • Ensure destination does not point back to source

404 errors still appearing

  • Verify redirect is active
  • Check exact URL match (with or without trailing slash)
  • Refresh 404 Monitor data

Compatibility & Notes

  • Works with all WordPress permalink structures
  • Integrates with 404 Monitor for error tracking
  • Supports bulk operations for large websites
  • May require cache clearing for immediate effect
