Understanding the metrics
Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)
Measures how quickly the main content of a page loads. A good LCP should be under 2.5 seconds.
Interaction to Next Paint (INP)
Measures how responsive your site is when users interact with it. A good INP should be under 200 milliseconds.
Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS)
Measures visual stability. A good CLS score should be below 0.1.
Best Practices
- Optimize images using modern formats (WebP/AVIF)
- Use caching and CDN to improve loading speed
- Minimize CSS and JavaScript files
- Avoid layout shifts by defining image and ad sizes
- Reduce server response time with optimized hosting
- Lazy load non-critical resources
Troubleshooting
Analysis not working
- Ensure your PageSpeed API key is valid
- Check API usage limits
- Verify internet connectivity from your server
Low performance score
- Check large images or unoptimized media
- Reduce unused CSS/JS
- Enable caching and compression
- Review third-party scripts affecting performance
Differences between mobile and desktop scores
- Mobile devices have lower processing power
- Network conditions are simulated differently
- Focus on improving mobile performance first
