What’s next?

This module helps you customize the WordPress admin dashboard by removing unnecessary widgets and elements. After enabling:

  1. Click on the “Settings” tab below the module name
  2. Under “Dashboard Widgets”, you’ll see a list of all available widgets
  3. Check the boxes next to the widgets you want to hide
  4. Click “Save Changes” to apply your settings

2. Available Options

  • Welcome Panel: Disable the WordPress welcome panel at the top of the dashboard
  • Core Widgets: Hide default WordPress widgets like:
    • At a Glance
    • Activity
    • Quick Draft
    • WordPress Events and News
  • Plugin Widgets: Hide widgets added by other plugins

3. Customization

You can customize the module’s behavior using filters:

Add custom widgets to the list:
add_filter('WPMazic/clean-dashboard/widgets_list', function($widgets) {
    $widgets['my_custom_widget'] = 'My Custom Widget';
    return $widgets;
});

Modify the list of dashboard widgets:
add_filter('WPMazic/clean-dashboard/dashboard_widgets', function($widgets) {
    // Add custom logic to modify widgets
    return $widgets;
});

4. Restore Default Widgets

To restore hidden widgets:

  1. Go to the Clean Dashboard Module Settings
  2. Uncheck the widgets you want to make visible again
  3. Click “Save Changes”

5. Advanced Usage

For developers, you can programmatically control the dashboard:

Hide a specific widget:
add_action('wp_dashboard_setup', function() {
    remove_meta_box('dashboard_primary', 'dashboard', 'side'); // WordPress News
    remove_meta_box('dashboard_quick_press', 'dashboard', 'side'); // Quick Draft
});

Add a custom dashboard widget:
add_action('wp_dashboard_setup', function() {
    wp_add_dashboard_widget(
        'custom_dashboard_widget',
        'Custom Dashboard Widget',
        'custom_dashboard_widget_callback'
    );
});

Important Notes:

  • Changes take effect immediately after saving settings
  • Only users with the appropriate permissions can modify these settings
  • Some plugins may add their own widgets that aren’t immediately visible in the list
  • The module remembers your settings even after updates

Troubleshooting:

If you experience any issues:

  1. Clear your browser cache
  2. Check for plugin conflicts by temporarily deactivating other plugins
  3. Verify your user role has the necessary permissions
  4. Check the browser’s console for JavaScript errors

This module is ideal for:

  • Client websites where you want to simplify the dashboard
  • Multi-author sites where you want to limit distractions
  • Custom admin interfaces
  • Improving the user experience for non-technical users
