Hide Admin Notices

Product: Admin Framework Pro

The Hide Admin Notices module helps declutter the WordPress dashboard by controlling how admin notices appear. Choose to keep them visible, hide them entirely, or move them into a clean “Notifications” tray in the admin bar—ideal for reducing distractions while keeping important updates accessible.

How to use

To enable the Hide Admin Notices Module:

  1. Click on the “Admin Tools” category
  2. Search or scroll to locate the Hide Admin Notices module
  3. Click on the switch to enable

What’s next?

This module lets you control how WordPress admin notices appear:

  • Keep WordPress default behavior
  • Hide all notices completely
  • Move notices into a tidy “Notifications” tray in the admin bar
  • Optionally hide update notifications (Core, Themes, Plugins)
  • Apply settings globally or override per user role

1. Display Mode

  1. Go to the module settings by clicking the “Settings” tab
  2. In “Global”:
    • Admin Notice Display:
      • Default: Show notices as normal
      • Hidden Tray: Move notices into a collapsible tray accessible from the admin bar
      • None: Hide all admin notices
  3. Save settings

Notes:

  • Hidden Tray adds a “Notifications” button to the top admin bar. Clicking it toggles a panel that contains all notices.
  • None injects CSS to hide notices (excluding critical dependency notices).

2. Hide Update Notifications

  1. In “Global” settings:
    • Hide Update Notifications:
      • Core
      • Theme
      • Plugin
  2. Select what to hide and save settings

Notes:

  • Core updates require the user to have capability to update core.
  • This suppresses update transients/nags for a cleaner admin experience.

3. Per-Role Overrides

  1. Open the “User Roles” tab
  2. Select User Role
  3. Toggle “Override Global Settings”
  4. Configure for the selected role:
    • Hide Update Notifications: Core, Theme, Plugin
    • Admin Notice Display: Default, Hidden Tray, None
  5. Save settings

4. Using the Hidden Tray

  • When “Hidden Tray” is active:
    • A “Notifications” button appears in the admin bar (#wp-admin-bar-WPMazic-notifications)
    • A dot indicator shows when notices are present
    • Clicking the button opens a panel that lists the captured notices
    • New notices are observed and added automatically

5. Best Practices

  • Use “Hidden Tray” to declutter busy dashboards without losing important messages
  • Apply “None” sparingly; consider role-based overrides so administrators still see critical notices
  • If managing client sites, hide update notifications for non-technical roles

6. Troubleshooting

  • Notifications button missing:
    • Ensure Admin Notice Display is set to “Hidden Tray”
    • Confirm admin scripts/styles can load; check for JS errors or conflicting plugins
  • Notices still visible when set to “None”:
    • Some dependency or critical notices may be excluded from hiding
    • Clear caches and hard-refresh the admin screen
  • Update nags not hidden:
    • Verify the correct items (Core/Theme/Plugin) are selected
    • Ensure user capabilities align (e.g., core updates require proper permissions)
  • Conflicts:
    • Other notice/toolbar customizer plugins can interfere with capture or admin bar nodes

7. Compatibility & Notes

  • Works across standard WordPress admin screens
  • The tray relies on the WordPress admin bar being visible
  • CSS/JS enqueue only when needed (Default mode loads nothing, None injects minimal CSS)

This module is perfect for:

  • Decluttering the admin area
  • Reducing distractions for editors/authors
  • Maintaining visibility of notices in a controlled tray
  • Hiding update nags for specific roles or globally
